Description
Dating back to the year 1825, a bronze statue of Louis XIV sitting gallantly astride his horse is one of the main focal points of La Place Bellecour. This huge square with it's vibrant red gravel and noticeable lack of greenery is situated in the Presqu'ile district in the very centre of Lyon and is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors alike. Behind the square, on the other side of the Soane River, Fourviere hill rises high, the monumental Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere overlooks the entire city of Lyon and can be seen from miles around. Constructed in the late 19th Century, with influences from both Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, this landmark building, affectionately known as the 'upside down elephant' is actually comprised of two churches, one built on top of the other. I blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the vintage feel of this colourful French scene.
